The Las Vegas Culinary Union announced on Sunday, Feb. 4, that it had called off a potential strike after reaching a deal with four downtown hotels. Also, a week before the Super Bowl, the Culinary Union, through spokesperson Bethany Khan, announced they had reached a five-year contract covering around 1,000 workers at Binion’s, Four Queens, Fremont, and Main Street. Further negotiations are underway with the Golden Nugget, Downtown Grand, and Virgin Las Vegas. However, what was the Las Vegas hotel workers strike about? We will discuss that in today’s casino news.
Las Vegas Hotel Workers Strike for Fair Means and Justice
2023 was a heated year for casinos because of the Las Vegas hotel workers strike. However, everything ended when the hotels’ union workers voted to approve a contract reached at Caesar Entertainment. In November 2023, via its X handle, the Culinary Union stated that after consulting with its members, it agreed to accept Caesar’s five-year deal.
Caesar Casino was the first to yield to their demands, so the union also went on to make efforts to resolve the Wynn Resorts and MGM Resorts International disputes before the end of the year. This quick turn occurred just a couple of hours before the workers hit the Las Vegas Strip to protest.
