Beat Boredom at Home! Play Single Person Card Games
Single person card games are games a single player can enjoy if they’re not up to visiting a live casino online site, for example, or any other venue, be it online or not. These games might not necessarily be designed for just one player, but a single person can have fun with them. Below are five single-person card games you can pick from, besides Solitaire.
Forty Thieves
Forty Thieves is one of the fun single-person card games. You will need two 52-card standard decks for this game. To begin gameplay, shuffle together all the cards from both decks. Aces are low and Kings are high, and the goal is to build eight foundations from Ace to King in the same suit, and in sequence.
Deal 40 cards into 10 columns. The rest form a stockpile. Only one card can be moved at a time. Move the top card from a column to another column or a foundation if it’s the same suit and in sequence. Foundations start with Aces. Example: you can move a 9 of hearts to go on top of an 8 of hearts, in sequence!
Draw from the stockpile or discard pile as needed. Empty columns can hold any movable card, which in this case are the Aces. No redeals are allowed. Win by building all eight foundations from Ace to King.
Osmosis
Second on the list of solo card games is Osmosis. This is a variant of the popular solitaire game since the purpose is to match the suits. To play this game, you will need a standard 52-card deck.
Start by shuffling your cards, then lay down four rows of 4 face-up cards each. Next, deal one face-up card beside the top row. You should aim to match this card -number/figure going down, and same suit on top of each- with cards from the same suit from any of the four rows. For example, if the card beside the top row is a 4 of clubs, it can only receive clubs from the piles facing down or from the stockpile in your hand. You deal every three cards face up.
If you get another 4 from, let’s say, hearts, you place it below the first 4 of clubs. Then you can add other cards that pop up with that same suit of hearts… but only if they match one already in the row of the 4 of clubs above it, and/or from the row immediately above it.
Wish
If you’re looking for a relaxed and easy single-person card game, try Wish. You need 32 cards from a 52-card deck of playing cards for this game. Your aim in a game of Wish is to finish the entire pile by pairing each of the cards by order of rank. First, remove all 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, and 6s from the pile deck. Go ahead and shuffle, then deal eight piles of 4 face-down cards each.
The game’s charm is always to make a wish before you flip the topmost card of each face-down pile. The popular superstition is that this will up the odds in your favor. Next, match each pair of cards with corresponding ranks and remove them from the game. Then, turn over the next card from each pile with a card previously cleared in the last round. Rinse and repeat until you have successfully exhausted all the cards.
Accordion
Accordion is one of those simple card games to play solo since it is always easy to solve. You aim to push all the cards into one pile by matching each to a corresponding rank or suit. Before you start playing, remember to shuffle the deck, turn over the topmost card, and place it face up to your left. Do the same with the next card. If this next card has the same rank or suit as the first one, put it on top. But if they don’t match, begin a new pile alongside the initial card.
Continue this process of matching cards or starting new piles. Note that you can match a card with another of the same rank or suit to your immediate left or 3rd to the left but never the second. Also, when you move the topmost card of a particular pile, always move the rest of the pile along with it. The game ends as soon as you have exhausted the entire pile. You win the game only when you have successfully moved all cards into one pile.
Skyway
The last but not least of single person card games is Skyway. To play, you will need a standard 52-card deck with Joker included. Skyway can get tricky since it’s not a regular card game. It is based on city planning. You will have a market, play area, and round markers; discard and draw piles on the table.
The goal in each play is to reset the market and play blueprints. In a typical game, you will have three complete passes through the deck of cards. Once this happens, you inspect the cards in the playing area. You win only when you have an increasing sequence of at least five cards for all the suits.
