Raise the Stakes With High Stakes Poker, Where the Cards Are Hot

High Stakes Poker (HSP) is a TV series featuring top-tier poker players competing in intense cash games with jaw-dropping buy-ins. Today’s casino news will provide you with a highlight of every season of the show that has aired.

High Stakes Poker: Where Chips Fly and Pros Play for Keeps

High Stakes Poker debuted in 2006 and has been one of the most fascinating gaming television shows since. Earlier, televised poker games were mainly tournaments, notably the WSOP. However, the creators, Henry Orenstein and Mori Eskandani, decided to give viewers a show that not only provided an outlook of what high-stakes cash games are but also starred some of the renowned names in the poker arena.

The show initially aired on the Game Show Network (GSN) and quickly gained attention, with Gabe Kaplan and A.J. Benza as hosts. Each episode, from the first to the current season, has shown various poker legends’ strategies and how they make their distinct bluffing in poker techniques.

High Stake Poker vs. Other Gaming Shows

High Stakes Poker distinguished itself from other high-stakes cash game tournaments through its unique arrangement, featuring high-stakes casino games. We are not talking about $10,000 to $30,000 buy-ins.

We’re referring to exceptional stakes of up to a minimum of $100,000, which is way higher than that of the Texas Hold’em Bonus game. Unlike tournaments in poker, where players buy in once and play until they are eliminated or win, players here can reload their stacks anytime.

Highlights of the High Stakes Poker Seasons

Season 1 of High Stakes Poker, which aired from January 16th to April 10th, was an absolute blast! It featured 13 episodes with prominent WSOP top dogs as casts. From online casino legends like Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, and Antonio Esfandiari to poker superstars like Phil Hellmuth, Jennifer Harman, and Todd Brunson, among others, season 1 was a joy to watch. Gabe Kaplan and co-host A.J. Benza hosted it.

Season 2 of High Stakes Poker kicked off at the Palms, with new faces like Gus Hansen and Mike Matusow joining the mix. Episode 3 delivered a jawing six-figure pot for the first time, with Farha, Alaei, and Esfandiari involved, facing off with tough hands.

Seasons 3 & 4

Season 3 of High Stakes Poker was held at the South Point Casino from January 2007 to April 2007, and players like Phil Ivey and Jamie Gold joined the action. The season started with Jamie Gold facing off against Doyle Brunson, which was like an old-school vs. new-school poker duel. In this season, Brad Booth became the center of attraction when he made a $1 million maximum buy-in. Ivey couldn’t believe it when Booth made a $300K buy-in in a cash stockpile.

Before the end of season 3, GSN announced that the show would return later that year at the same venue. The fourth season, with 17 episodes, began airing from August 2007 to December 2007. This season’s stakes, however, increased. The minimum buy-in was $500k, leading to intense action. Phil Hellmuth and Phil Laak make a comeback, while the seven-deuce game spices things up.

Seasons 5, 6, and & 7

High Stakes Poker Season 5 was held at the Golden Nugget in 2009, maintaining the high stakes with a minimum $200k buy-in. The lineup featured fresh faces like Tom Dwan and Peter Eastgate alongside veterans like Negreanu and Brunson. Dwan stole the spotlight with the biggest pot in the show’s history against Greenstein.

Co-host A.J. Benza wasn’t in the show’s sixth season. Kara Scott joined Kaplan at the Golden Nugget from February 2010 to May 2010. This season’s intro was outstanding.

Season 7 consisted of 13 episodes and was held at the Bellagio from February 2011 to May 2011. However, it did not feature a single cast member from rival poker offerers, as PokerStars had purchased the rights to become the show’s official sponsor. But it was full of incredible poker action.

Season 8 -11: A New Era

After a long wait, High Stakes Poker aired again for its 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th seasons, streaming at PokerG, its new owner, on December 2020, February 2022, January 2023, and August 2023, respectively. These seasons were tapped at Aria Resort and Casino, and new faces were showcased: Xuan Liu, Garrett Adelstein, Rick Salomon, and Jennifer Tilly.

Season 12

Season twelve of High Stakes Poker kicked off on February 19, 2024, promising 12 episodes filled with high-stakes action. With familiar faces like Jennifer Tilly and newcomers like Vivian Yang, the season promises unforgettable moments. Phil Laak also returned to the show after thirteen years of absence.
